Cleaning Silver...

I have a couple of silver photo frames and they tarnish so quickly even though they are not touched. I have spent the last 10 mins trying to clean them with a silver polishing cloth but it's not working...

Can anyone suggest an everyday cleaning product that I am likely to already have in that will work? Now I have started I just want them to be shiny again!!!

Haggerty silver polishing cloths from Lakeland, I use them when I dust, so thats every 1-2 weeks. Hagerty cream for a deep clean, every 3 minths.

Think I will have to get some of the cream, I have the silver cloths, I think the cleaner may have used polish on them at some point so a deep clean will be needed...

I was hoping someone would have a solution such as vinegar or lemon juice or something simple, I'll go online for Lakeland tomorrow.

If you're buying anything, get Goddards Silver Pad (or the john Lewis own-brand). It is a pinkish stuff like soap that you rub on with a sponge, and the tarnish floats off in the foam. It leaves a tarnish-resistant polish behind.

Most metal polishes, and especially home remedies, work by wearing away the tarnished surface. On solid silver it eventually wears away detail and hallmarks, on silver plate they quickly wear off the plating.

I have a silver pendant that has some black marks on it now and nothing seems to shift them. Can't really soak them in anything as there is writing on the pendant which is oxidised and it'll come off.

The frames are by Carrs of Sheffield so I have ordered some of their silver cleaning stuff, hopefully that will work or i will try the Goddards... Thank you :) xx

Put them in a plastic washing up bowl, then scrunch up a piece of tinfoil and make sure at least one item is touching the foil. Then pour hot water from the kettle into the sink. Leave there for about an hour, and if you are lucky, the tarnish should have lifted. Take them all out and polish dry.
