How can I get my kitchen floor clean?

I don't think I have words to express how much I am starting to hate our kitchen floor. The previous owners put in this lino in dark grey, which has these sort of raised circles that just hold all the crap between them. Replacing the lino isn't really an option at the moment and it actually doesn't look too bad until you get up close and personal. But when you do - it's dirty. A few months ago I got down with hot water, floor cleaner and a scourer and since then I use the steam mop about once a week, but it's not making much difference and I swear it is getting dirty.

Does anyone have an incredible tips that might help me get it cleaner?

HAve you tried scrubbing (wet) with a softish broom and then mopping? Biological washing detergent is great at eating grime.

Have vinyl flour in bathroom and I find Sainsburys Multisurface cleaning wipes to work well. Bit like babywipes. Good for doing small stubborn areas.

When I spilled Cillit Bang on my kitchen floor last year it left a huge clean patch. Since then I use it with a deck scrubber when I can be arsed and it is heaps better. Can't wait to rip it up though!

I know the stuff you mean, all the dirt gets caught in the raised bits. Years ago I borrowed an old fashioned floor polisher with brushes and cleaned my kitchen floor with that ; the floor just attracted the dirt and it got ingrained but it was really clean after that.If you don't mind losing the shine then I would take a stiff floor brush and clean it with washing powder as Mrs Lettuce says. You might have to steam clean every day to avoid dirt being ingrained.

Maybe the scourer has taken off any protective covering? Not sure if you can resurface it - with my rubber flooring, I strip it then reseal. Cleaning is then very simple. If I use anything harsh it takes the protective coating off and it looks rubbish.

I don't know if it had a protective covering to begin with!

Right, so I need to try and decent deck scrubbing brush and washing powder? We only use liquid - I assume I can just get some supermarket cheapo bio stuff and give it a whirl?

Watching with interest as I have terrible beige lino in the kitchen where the dirt gets ingrained too. I'll try Cilit Bang as scrubbing with a stiff brush hasn't helped.

Cheap bio stuff, yes. I use the stuff for whites 'cause it has bleaching / brightening stuff in it which I like to imagine is A Good Thing.

Cilit bang or anything with bleach in it works. Good for tiled kitchen floors too.
