Fuse Wire - what's it for?

My rented house has various types of fuse wire on a card in the meter cupboard. It's got a modern fusebox with circuit breakers. What would anyone be using the fuse wire for?

I'm sure years ago I remember fuse wire on a card being an essential in every house along with spare fuses, but they were for plugs when the fuse blew. I remember when I was a child and we had old fuse boxes, the fuses sometimes blew (instead of circuit breakers) and you had to replace them. But I can't remember ever using fuse wire for anything.Confused

Probably left over from before

in older fuseboxes, you can remove the blown fuse, and replace the fuse wire in it to fix it. if your house has circuit breakers, I have no idea why it would be there.

The system in my house is so old I still use fuse wire. Not sure why you would have it if your system has been modernised.

I'm showing my age here. When I was little fuse wire was used instead of fuses in plugs they had different fitting inside not like today's where you just pop the fuse in but you threaded the wire through to earth it etc.Sounds dangerous and Probobly was.Strange child that I was I found plugs fascinating and used to watch fuses being changed some with wire some with fuses which I remember being fairly expensive but wire was cheap.Ithink you can throw it away every thing has proper fuses these days
