Or does that damage them in some way?

Why do you want to?

valiumredhead · 13/06/2013 08:04

I've never heard of it damaging it.

I've heard they draw electric when not in use, I switch things off at the wall to save power.

My mum worked for the old electric boards years ago and the engineers always said it was good practice. My toaster and washing machine do consume power if switched on at the socket.

They do draw power and initially it was thought they drew a lot on standby - if you google it, it's one of the first article that come up - but it has since been amended. You could ring up the manufacturers and ask. You would have to re set the clock every time you turned it back on, the majority don't work without the clock being set, that would be a PITA.

I always switch mine off at the wall but only because when my son was little he loved playing with it and switching it off at the wall meant that if even if he pressed the dials, nothing happened. I just kept on switching it off at the wall after this. But valiumredhead is correct, the main oven won't work without setting the clock although the top oven and hob do. I just set the clock to any time.

I lock my oven when not in use, have a look in the manual to see if you can on yours.

Thanks valiumredhead, that's a good point, yes, it can be locked, I think I've just got used to switching it off at wall tbh, the children wouldn't play with it now anyway.

Yes, I should look to locking it, that would leave my clock on all the time too.

Thanks
