Bad back - mattress recommendations please!!

Due to DH's early start a DD during the week I sleep on action bed which is fine for my back as it's rock hard. However I move into the marital bed at weekends and by Sunday my back is really painful because I guess the sprung mattress is too soft.

Problem is the bed is king size and funds are really tight at the moment so ideally I need a cheap solution to this - would a mattress topper be the answer and if so any recommendations? Guess I could abandon the marital bed permanently and sleep brilliantly every night but DH wouldn't be too happy!!

Thanks!

Thanks!

Sorry I'm not sure I have a cheap answer we have a very firm mattress (by Hypnos) but it cost a bomb.
We also rejuvenated another mattress with a John Lewis mattress topper but again it wasn't cheap.
Both of us have sleep issues (pain / poor sleep) so it was worth spending money to help us sleep.

A solid thick plank of wood under your side of the mattress will make it firmer and you will notice it.

I had the same problem, and no money for a new mattress.

We have a bed frame with mattress on top so I changed the wooden slates which were quite 'springy' for cheapo solid ones. Big difference. If you have a box bed (divan??) then as above poster said get a piece of ply wood for under the mattress. My Mum did this for years until we left home and she could afford a new bed!

We have a Tempur mattress which cost a bomb but it heaven to sleep on and worth every penny.

Rachel, I see you live in Surrey. I am in Sandhurst, Berkshire, and I have got a piece of MDF that could suit your needs - have been trying to shift it for years as I don't want it to go to the dump ;)

Thanks all! I think we are going to have to bite the bullet and change the mattress or permanently sleep in separate beds fine by me!!
In the meantime DH is going to try putting a board under it to see if it helps! Thanks for the MDF offer but we have something we can use which I should have thought of before!!
