I have an old fridge freezer(already second hand when I got it).
My DH defrosted it the other day. He turned it back on and although the light was working, I noticed that the fridge was no longer cool inside the next day and items in the freeze such as bread weren't hard. When i turn the dial to the coldest setting, the compressor kicks in and I can hear the fridge working and it stays cold. However, this setting is too cold(and presumably expensive to run) and the compressor stays on much of the time. There is frost forming in the fridge and my strawberries are going hard.
If I turn the dial down, the fridge stops working. Any ideas. Do I need a new thermostat. Should I call out a fridge engineer. Is it worth fixing or is it on its way out.
At the moment I'm turning dial to coldest setting in day and turning it down at night when fridge door isn't being opened and closed. I'm hoping this will keep things cold and safe enough without using too much electricity and burning out my fridge electrics!
I'm not storing any meat delibrately at the moment.
