Interested to know what the average hourly rate is for a cleaner in London - either agency or privately hired.

I pay £10 per hour for a privately hired one and used to pay £12.50 for agency ones. The private one is so much better than the agency ones, and cheaper too which is lovely!

Thanks for that HTFU. I thought £10 was about right but the person I have interviewed has asked for £12 which I thought was a bit steep!

My DM is in SW London and pays £9 p/h.

Does the cleaner provide their own materials or use yours?
Do they have insurance?

If "yes" to the above, then their hourly rate may be higher than what you hear from others, as their overhead is higher.

The more "legit" the business (insurance, advertising, happy to take payment via cheque or bank transfer) the more they will likely cost an hour.

Also, if it's a self-employed solo cleaner, they may be cheaper than a company that sends out employees (agencies send out self-employed people, which is slightly different).

If you find them via Google (that is to say, they have a web site) they are probably in the legit/high end of the scale. The cheaper self-employed cleaners who will use your own equipment generally work via word of mouth and cards in the village shop/post office.

£12 was from a solo self-employed cleaner, using my materials - don't know about insurance, so seems steep. But thanks for all the advice.
