Stinky overflow outlet - how do I get rid of the smell?

Well, the title says it all really. The overflow on my bath really smells - a sort of stagnant water smell. I've poured bleach down it in the past which gets rid of it for a while, but it keeps coming back.

What should I do? Is this a job for a plumber?

COuld you have something stuck down there - we found a coin, 2 toothbrushes, 4 cotton buds, a ring pull (was going to sell it as an antique!!) and lots and lots of hair and had poured a few hundred pounds worth of caustic stuff down there hoping to kill the smell!!!

It's possible Twinkie - dd is a monster for poking things into small places Grin. How did you get at the overflow? Did you take the side off the bath?

Good thing you've got a handy FIL!

DH is due home later - I'll make him go and stick his nose near the outlet - should be enought to spur him into action.
