Sewing machine for a beginner

Hi,

Please can anyone recommend a sewing machine for myself?

I am going on a sewing course and would like to be able to use the machine for repairs, general sewing, nothing fancy at this stage

I just went to John Lewis. Get one that cxan cope with fairly heavy weight fabrics. Not because you will be sewing denim everyday, but because if you ever make blinds you may have to sew through several layers of fabric.

You don't need electronic million fancy decorative stitches.

I think mine was about £200 7 years ago - it's an Elna, but Brother etc are also fine. That would have been the cost of having just one blind made up. I don't use it that often, but do use it for costumes and the odd skirt / dress for DD.
