Whats the best carpet cleaner out there? Would be useful if we could clean the sofa etc with too.
We used to have one about ten years ago that was rubbish. It soaked the floor and then dried it so badly that it left water stains.
We're hoping technology has moved rather since then.
With four children and a dog in a rented house we have decided this might be the best way to go
Would be grateful for mn recommendations because I'm sure companies go on sites and write their own good reviews. Mn never fails us.

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for product recommendations, we’ve recently updated our guide to the best carpet cleaners with lots of options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and editors. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

Oooh this is my area Smile.

I've had a few in recent years because I get sucked in by adverts for cleaning gadgets.

I have this. It's brilliant, carpets cleaned very well (and we have a cream living room carpet Shock) dry quick - all round brilliant.

Only downside for me, is that the upholstery attachment shoots water out a little too fast, but to be fair I've found this on all three machines I have had and as long as I suck it all up, it isn't too big a problem.

HTH

Yes that does help. Thank you

See - It's meant to be :) It is really good. Saved many a carpet from the scrap because I can't be trusted with a cup of coffee Good luck.

I have that the same one as e1y1 - but you can get the same one without the pre- treat spray (same number ends with -B not P) for less money...and honestly the pre-treat spray bit is a waste of time (you have to put the pretreatment solution in the cleaning solution tank - and then rinse out and put cleaning solution in... IME you would be as well off with a spray bottle with the pre treat solution in - less faff...
It is very good - wouldn't be without one now . I use mine just to go over high traffic areas as well as the occasional full on clean under the sofa/bed type and it does a good job - really convenient. The upholstery attachment is small for things like doing the stairs but ok for a sofa - (and the spray goes everywhere - but again if that is too annoying you could always use a separate spray bottle...) I had a problem with my first one leaking everywhere (split O ring) but got a new machine and not had a problem since...
Vax also do a Dual -v or something - and someone was recommending that another thread - I didn't get that one cos it was more money and supposedly noisier (both are Which best buys) -that looks easier to empty and according to the other poster is not horrifically noisy - and it add detergent as you go -so you can rinse - but then I fill my tank with clean water and go over it again sometimes (someone told me the detergent left on the carpet attracts dirt -but that might not be right!) think I would try one of those if I needed a new one..check the prices out (vax were selling ones for £300 and Amazon for £170!)
If your Dh is looking at the Bissell Which best buy -when I looked 18months ago - lots of people were having problems with those leaking into the electrics Shock and blowing fuses - but that might be sorted now..

(BTW I noticed the other day they are selling the Vaxs (manufacturer reconditioned) on flea bay for a lot lot less than new ...maybe worth checking that out (when I got mine the difference was only a tenner when compared to amazon)

Thank you
We're going for it
The other one mentioned is quite a lot more so...
It's bad isn't it, I'm excited about a carpet cleaner
Thank you both for your help

Great - enjoy! Did you check out fleabay -cos they were being auctioned and the 'all terrain' £400 one was going for £70 last time I looked...
And no -not bad - I get excited about new 'toys' all the time (usually power tools - an angle grinder was the last -been finding an excuse to get one for 4 years!)
What is sad was when I got a new (paper trimmer) guillotine that did 'perforations' ...and I actually told someone IRL that I was looking forward to using it! Blush

I have that vax carpet cleaner & it is AWESOME! I fell in love with it after only using ones that take massive effort & still leave your carpet soaking. It's easy to use & sucks your carpets almost dry. Just amazing after previous experiences!

Just thought I would let your know I did the whole house after we got it and it was great. A few stains that were too much for it but so much better. The colour of the water...

This week I've had a dog with a bladder problem and three of my four children getting a sickness bug. It has come into its own and was worth every single penny.

Do seem to get through a lot of the solution though so will be stocking up from eBay.
