Yellow dust cloths

Might be a strange question but what are you supposed to do with these after use?

Hubby thinks we should throw and re-buy, I think that's a waste but don't want to put them in the washing machine as not enough to warrant a load (seems like a waste of energy) but don't want to put dusty cloths in with clothes washing.

What do you all do?

I, as my gran would have said, skiddle them in the sink with a drop of washing powder.

The water is always yellow.

Why are they yellow? I don't use them because I don't dust and they are such a PITA to wash. They should logically go on with towels and the like but they would turn the whole load yellow.

Enough that you can use them, yes. But, indeed, why are they yellow?

DO NOT put in a load with clothes etc they will dye it manky yellow (thankfully mine was just in with a load of tea towels)

I do a periodic load of cloths, dusters, sponges, tea towels (well they are all yellow now anyway) - and have enough to last me until I have a load.

They are yellow so you don't loose them?

I have some blue & red checked ones - they also run!

I use microfibre cloths, damp, for all dusting now. I buy the cheapie ones from Asda & they wash fine. I think they are called bathroom one.

I have a lot of them. I save them all up in a bag until I have enough to do in their very own wash.

I put them in with dark towels of any colour and haven't had them run onto my towels. Have done this for years!

I save my cloths up until I have enough for a load (means buying quite a few in).

You could just hand wash them.

I hate them with a vengeance! They leave lint everywhere. I would suggest handwashing the yellow perils, perhaps with a bit of dettol or antibac in the water if you're really concerned. Stops them going smelly while they dry too

Really?! I just chuck mine in with a colour wash....not had any issues so far and have been doing it for years!

I use white(ish) dusters.

I wash mine with towels. I kind of hate them, DP bought a load of them, the other cloths are microfibre. However, nothing has run, and I certainly wouldn't throw them out after every use.

Chuck them out and buy some microfibre ones. I hate those yellow ones, they leave as many bits as they remove!

Shake them outside to get the dust off. Handwash when that doesn't seem to have much effect any more!

I used to save up the dirties and wash with bathmats/picnic rugs, or something similarly grubby.

I now use the microfibre ones, and stick them in the regular wash.

I just put them in a dark wash, it's fine.

I must be really unfriendly to the environment as I would just pop mine through the wash (about 5 together) - because I think that's better than throwing them away but I wouldn't risk them in with anything else.

If I'm using them for dusting, I shake them outside to get the dust off and I keep using them until they seem quite dirty then handwash them in hot water and washing powder and hang them on the line or over a bucket to dry. If I use them for cleaning windows they usually need washing straight afterwards as they are so mucky.

So why are dusters yellow?

No idea. The same reason scourers are always green?

Lakeland sell white ones! So much eaier to wash- I just stick them in with towels or sheets!

Are you meant to wash them?

My duster is 20 years old and I've never washed it!
