Smelly washing machine

If I put bleach in and run an empty hot wash should this get rid of the awful smell?

Superscrimper last week said put it on a boil wash empty .....

Personally I'd lob in a handful of soda crystals as well .....

Yes but not to much! I made the mistake and ended up with an overflowing bleach mess on my kitchen floor. Aldo have you emptied the filters, I find the water in there stinks.

yep to the above.
empty the filter (use old towels to catch the smelly water!)
bung the now smelly towels in and wash the hottest longest cycle your mashine has without any detergent.
if it then is still smelly do it again with a good glug of white (distilled malt) vinegar.
keep the door of the mashine ajar when not in use.
