Throw out wildly expensive hoover. Go to local hardware shop. Spend £2 on a rubber squeegee for cleaning windows. Put kettle on. Use squeegee to brush hair out of carpet quickly and easily. Drink tea and admire revitalised carpet.

Ooo, good idea. It comes out of most carpets in our house but our bedroom one, which is also strewn with my dark hair. I will give it a go Smile

I can make you happier, OP. Wilkos sell a rubber bristled brush with long handle for this. Also great for tiles, gardens (washes easily). Wilkos, you may pay my advertising fee in chocolate.....

poachedeggs · 02/05/2013 13:16

We don't have Wilko here (it's a bugger because I love that place! ) but it's easy to screw a long handle onto a squeegee :)

Scraping my crocs across the carpet accumulates cat hair - scarily satisfying! X crocs are better than my dyson!

SoupDragon · 02/05/2013 13:26

Yes - Crocs work wonders. Even cheap Primark ones that your children have outgrown.

SoupDragon · 02/05/2013 13:27

As do any rubber soled shoe actually. I often scrape my converse across the carpet whilst wearing them :o

poachedeggs · 02/05/2013 13:29

I used to use crocs but I went through a pair doing it so didn't find it cost effective!

Cannot believe how disproportionately happy this thread has made me - my bedroom carpet is revolting due to fluffy cat and my post pregnancy moulting. Before I skip to the shop; a squeegee is the flat plastic blade thing isn't it? And is the wilko one a rubber bristled brush? Thankyou!

freddiemisagreatshag · 03/05/2013 10:44

I got a rubber brush for this too. It's fab so much better than anything else.

Mamuss · 04/05/2013 09:20

I had a long handled rubber brush that was fantastic, it was all one piece, it didn't come apart. And it said on the side 'not suitable for dishwasher'....

I now have a Dyson animal and its great for our carpets with 2 cats and a dog
