Stain remover for baby clothes

lozster · 27/04/2013 02:50

I've got a bunch of baby clothes in waiting for my bump. They are hand me downs and ebay bargains so inevitably some have small marks on. I have been waiting for a sunny day to wash and dry them as I know sunlight is a good stain reducer. Apart from that, given that the stains are not fresh and are 'origin unknown' (!) what would I be best to do and use? vanish bunged in machine? Spot treatment with stain remover of some brand? Stain devil? Thanks

I wouldn't hold out too much hope to be honest, given that these stains may well have been "washed in" by now. But its worth a try with a Vanish spray or soak and then wash as hot as you can to get the mark out. I just had to do this with a blouse which had curry on it - but moved very quickly to get the marks out. I sprayed, soaked in warm water over night and threw in the wash. Drip dry to avoid shrinkage.

Napisan works well followed by drying in the sun.

Try washing soda crystals followed by sunlight. They come in a green bag and are usually hidden somewhere the vanish, dirt cheap and far more effective, I was surprised how much more they shift

Thanks for the early replies! Was thinking about buying something today as sunshine is predicted but there is frost out there at the moment so maybe no rush! Should have added - are Vanish, napisan and soda crystals ok for colours? I'm not too precious as a lot of these items are small baby/new born so may only be worn once if at all as my little one is measuring not so little!

I don't get on well with vanish in-wash stain remover powder but love the stuff that comes in a stick for spots.

For a wash supplement, I prefer Astonish Oxy Action, we normally get it from Wilko as vanish seems to have cornered the supermarkets. Aldi's own seems to ape Vanish but is more effective.

Napisan is very effective and fine for colour-fast fabrics.

I can see vanish do a version of Napisan?! Guess the recommendation is for napisan original? I may try a few things as I have a big bag of clothes and a dirt monster due in a couple of months! I will report back.
