7 year old wet the bed

DS has wet the bed on the FIRST night I decided I could take his plastic sheet off.

He hasn't wet the bed for over a year .

How do I get rid of it. He was clearly quite dehydrated. Really strong smelling, dark yellow stain which stinks!

I've washed it with Milton but it now just smells of fish

I wouldn't worry too much as he's about the right age for "wet dreams " putting plastic sheet back on and don't make a issue of it . my daughter used to wet the bed it got so bad she had to see a clinic in which they gave her tablets to help stop her wetting the bed which worked she stopped wetting the bed at thirteen sometimes there is a medical reason like bladder infection which is more likely for a girls to get them not boys as i said before don't worry keep a diary of his bed wetting so if you do take him to GP you can show them how often he's doing it .

I don't think seven is an age where you have to start thinking about wet dreams

I think he only did it because he was absolutely shattered and fell asleep very quickly.

It's more the smell that's worrying me. I've put carpet cleaner on it and put it in the garden. I'm hoping that will help.

DS2 is just out of nappies at night so I'd nicked DS1's plastic sheet so I could 'double make' DS2's bed in case of accidents in the night (Which are more frequent).

Bicarbonate of soda sprinkled liberally over the patch might help draw the odour out?

It always happens just when the bed is unprotected, doesn't it? Two of my DCs were v v slow to be dry at night (ie older than seven).

I'd suggest wetting the stain (with plain water) quite liberally, then drying it. You say you've put the mattress in the garden (that takes a lot of effort, well done!) so I'd slosh some water on it and let it dry.

And buy another plastic sheet.

And

Bicarbonate of soda should get rid of the smell, make up a paste, but quite wet, apply and allow to dry, then clean off. Not sure if that will deal with the stain, I've always found that plain water and elbow grease does that trick.

Re the age, I have an 11 yr old who still wets occasionally. Reading up I found that something like 5% at DDs age still wet and 2% of teens. Just keep the plastic sheet on and don't make a big deal of it.
