Bath mat issues!

MissFredi · 21/04/2013 23:36

So I peeled up the bath mat to clean the bath and the underneath was all black with mildew and whatnot. Ew. I soaked it in caustic soda, then rinsed and scrubbed with some bubble bath we don't like anymore.

It's still so horrible Sad I know it's the underneath but I have to bathe on that. What can I do to get it off? Or is it time for a new one?

Time for a new one. And this time, let it dry thoroughly between baths. I always pull mine up and give it a good airing whenever it isn't in use.

MousyMouse · 21/04/2013 23:40

get a new one.
and don't leave it on after bath/shower but hang it on the side of the bath with the suction thingies up to dry between use.
or get the small handsize ones and chuck them in with the washing once a week.

Thanks for repliesSmile

Will be looking for a new one then. Payday Wednesday so I can get one that actually goes with my colour scheme this time.

I really didn't know you weren't supposed to leave it in the bath. It's been there since we moved in so...Blush

you can scrub with bleach ()neat) to get rid of the stains but otherwise just get a new one and remember to turn it over and dry it after every use

mawbroon · 22/04/2013 16:53

Yes, time for a new one. We have an Ikea crocodile one which has a hole in one end which we use to hang it up every time.

MissFredi · 22/04/2013 17:10

I do need one, I'm so clumsy I'd end up drowning in the bath without it!

Darn shame, I'll have to get a nice new purple one!Wink

Mousy, what are these hand sized machine washable mats that you speak of Grin?

Babybeesmama · 22/04/2013 18:01

I got one that you can stick in washing machine from Jo Jo mama, I just wash it once a week x

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/04/2013 18:11

Was it this one, Mama?

MousyMouse · 22/04/2013 18:28

sorry for the unclicky link
I mean something like this

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/04/2013 18:55

Ah, thanks, Mousy. I have those, but DS is too little to use them as a mat at the moment.

MissFredi · 22/04/2013 20:07

Ooh I like those. But why do they say "hot" on them? Are they fancy and detect the water temp??

OP posts:
ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/04/2013 20:14

Yes, Miss, the orange one says 'Hot' when the water is warm / hot.

Nearly42 · 22/04/2013 20:17

I got sick of cleaning bath mats so ended up buying those little adhesive shapes which are fantastic

MissFredi · 22/04/2013 20:26

That's so cool. I only bought this one as an emergency (we decided to move in together in two weeks, my friends were moving house and this was perfect for first home and we'd been looking for months for something we could actually afford) and I hate it. I'd collected loads of little bathroom bits in silver and purple and this is grey. Not even grey. It's more mushroomHmm

Can you tell it's a relief I need to get a new one?

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/04/2013 20:27

Yeah, might drown him out! Arg, I don't know what to do.

ItsAllTLAsToMe · 22/04/2013 20:31

Babybeesmama · 30/04/2013 13:03

Sorry for delay its! Yes that's the one! Grin X

I stopped messing about with bathmats when a friend who worked with elderly patients suggested that a plain teatowel or similar thin cloth would work well - it does, and apart from plain white huckaback-type towels, there's plenty of colour choice and all easy to machine-wash/dry at very little cost.
