Washing Dog leads

Can I wash dog leads in the washing machine or am I likely to damage the drum with the metal clip bits?

Could you pop them in an old pillow case? It'll still make a noise, but you'll have protected the drum a bit...

our horse stuff (leather and metal stuff) I used to wash in the mashine with a bit of shampoo. inside a couple of pillow cases.

wash them in with the towels.
