Hi Katy,

Can you help me with an icky problem. DS is now fully potty trained and learning to move over to the toilet from the potty. However since we started this process little whiteish wee crystals have started to form on the toilet seat from the splashing. Nothing I've tried is shifting them and it's beginning to look a little yuk... Anything you know of that is up to the job? Thank you!

I'm not sure what wee crystals are. Do you mean limescale deposit? Are you in a hard water area?

What is your toilet seat made of, and what have you tried on it?

Ordinarily, I would say that you want something acidic to shift mineral deposits, but if you've already tried something like Flash or Ciff bathroom cleaner (something that mentions being for limescale and bathrooms) or even something more serious like Viakal, then this is not a mineral deposit.

Anyway, if you've already tried a regular bathroom cleaner I would suggest something like a magic eraser (melamine sponge). That might help. Might not.

That makes me wonder if it's actually something on the surface. Are you sure that they are a deposit on top of the surface and not a discoloration of some sort (bleaching or etching?)

Try Astonish cream cleaner. It's a solid in a tub.

I don't really use any cream cleaner. I have Barkeeper's Friend, but that's my only abrasive cleaner. I will use a scouring pad, even, but never a scouring cream.

I just bought a cream cleaner today because I think it may be useful in a couple of situations.

I can only assume it's wee because we never used to have this problem. Thank you for the advice, I hadn't thought if magic erasers and I have them in my cleaning cupboard. I tried bleach, flash and (am in a hard water area and viakal normally does the trick re: hard water deposits)... and it's not budging. If the erasers don't work I'll but some astonish or bar keepers friend (although not sure where I'd get that from - have to google).

You can get barkeepers quite easily now, Wilkinsons have it.
