Ticking in my pipes

Have had the pipework reworked in the loft for a conversion, now when the heating comes on in the morning there is a ticking / clicking in the pipes. Loud enough to wake me up, every morning at 5am. The floor is down so access to the pipes is awkward. Apart from having the heating on later, what can we do? It's a loud ticking, starts off fast and slows down over about half an hour. We do have one of those valve thingies in the eaves which releases air in the system, would bleeding the radiators help? It's a difficult noise to pin down to a specific area.

I think it is usually the pipes expanding against the joist/floorboard/wall somewhere along their length, as they get hot. That's why it is faster when it first starts heating up, then settles once the pipe has got hot. It probably cools down more slowly so you are less aware of it then.

I'm not sure what can be done about it though, it's just a physical heat expansion thing.

Thanks AMum. Bugger. May get DH to stick his arm under the floorboards and give what he can reach a bit of a wiggle. You're right, we never notice when it cools down.
