Smelly laundry left in machine - will a 60 degree wash sort it?

I just went to put a load of washing on and there is a minging load sitting there wet and stinking, I think I put it on about Tuesday or Wednesday last week. We've had several hospital appointments and we've all been sick with this bloody cough/cold/fever virus that's going around and I completely forgot about it.

I usually do all the washing on Mondays, so this lot is up to a week old.

I've put in a new load of bio detergent, a capful of Vanish oxi-action, and put it on the 60 degree with prewash. Is that going to get rid of the smell? I can't wash it any hotter as it's a mixed wash.

It is foul.

I have done this before and found re-washing got rid of smell, although I think I may have had to re-wash twice. Good luck!

Line drying should help, if you can dry outside.

unless it's a very full load a wash will sort it

Have found re-washing with either vinegar or bicarbonate of soda followed by drying outside helpful.

I've done this more times that I care to admit. Grin I chuck in some soda crystals, half the powder and fabric softener, and put it on the quick wash cycle, which only runs at 30. It's never failed to sort it out.

It's horrible weather today so it's going in the tumble Sad

I have soda crystals and white vinegar - if it still smells after this wash I'll try one of them, how much should I put in? It's a full load of dark bits - jeans, t-shirts, undies, socks, tracksuits, so mainly 'heavyweight' stuff.

I'm always forgetting about loads in the machine, I am blaming pregnancy brain at the moment, but I always find a hot wash sorts it out. I tumble dry too without too many problems.
