Getting rotary dryer into the ground

Hi all,
I've recently bought a Brabantia rotary dryer and the spike that goes into the ground is flippin massive. I was going to get it cemented in but it says not to, so dh has used a mallet to hammer it in as much as he can but it's still stuck about 5cm out of the ground. The metal is starting to bend now so dh doesn't want to put it in any further.

What would you recommend, anyway to get it in further?
Thanks,
x

If you are in the uk possibly wait for the ground to thaw out more? Could he have hit a stone?

Yes possibly, I hadn't thought about him hitting a stone. Mmmm, not sure how we'd get it back out to check now. Maybe I'll have to live with it sticking out the ground a bit?

Thanks sherbetpips
