Washing machine in hard water area......

I want to give my washing machine a clean from the inside, we live in a very hard water area and usually I just put it on an 90 degree wash on empty every six months or so. I use calgon in most washes, but had noticed lately its not getting my clothes as clean as normal. What can I put in it to give it a good clean from the inside?

TIA

Have you tried soda crystals?

Just add them to the drawer then stick it on a hot wash?

Yep. We used them for ages as a fabric softener but dh prefers the fragranced ones now.
