What is the best easiest way to clean the dust filter on a hoover. I have a inexpensive bagless cylindar which has a removable cleanable dust filter any tips on how to clean it? It is quite built up with dust tbh.

they are usually a sort of compressed plastic fibre mat. I wash mine in warm water with a drop of WUL each time I change the bag. You can put a drop of scented oil on them when dry, if you like. You can also buy replacement fine filter in sheets which you cut to size. You will find them online at places that sell vac bags.

With bagged cleaners, you usually get one fine filter with each pack of bags, so I always keep at least one clean one ready. They do eventually wear out, even if washable.

If yours is a paper one you will just have to shake it clean, and I would get some spares as you can't wash it

like this but check by your brand name in the "search" panel in case they have the right ones to fit

It is a circular concertina in the centre of the emptying compartment (each groove is jam packed with dust banging doesnt really do much) , not the little foamy dust filter things, they are at the back.

make and model?

It sounds to me like you mean a canister vac with a pleated filter.
Some of them are wet-and-dry vacs and when used with the pleated filter can suck up water. Don't try that if yours is not a waterproof cleaner. Some of them cost £hundreds

You can use a stiff brush to clean the pleats.

You can also get a huge paper bag, like a pillowcase, that wraps round the drum, and the filter stays cleaner longer. Especially useful when you have plaster dust which clogs filters.

When dry brushing no longer cleans it, you can wash it in the sink with warm water, WUL, and a soft brush.

There are only a few sizes of filter, and you can often get them cheap online or on fleabay, but you need to know your make and model to be sure you get one that fits. If the take the old filter to a side-street shop or a market stall they wil probably have one to match, keep a note of the reference number.
