Sorry boring question - tumble dryer won't turn on, what could it be?

Aaaarggh, got a huge load of wet clothes and my John Lewis condenser tumble dryer won't start.

I have emptied the water, cleaned the filter etc. The Start light is green and flashing and there are no other indicator lights on.

It is not on delayed start, and the door is definitely closed.

What could it be? I've looked at the manual and its no help.

Can any wise mumsnetter help, please?

Turn it off, un plug it and then try again?

Best I can offer!

Have you put the fitler and draw back in properly? It isn't slightly our of position or something simple is it?

Check on the back to see if there is a red button, or red rubber disc. It is a sort of reset button. Press it. I'm not sure what makes you need to reset it, so to be safe make sure you've given it a defluff before you turn it back on again, in case it's overheating.

No luck, I'm afraid. Couldn't get to the back of the unit as I would have to almost deconstruct the utility room.

I'm going to have to call an engineer, aren't I? God knows if it's even worth it for a 5 year old machine. The call out and repair is prob going to be ££££!

count the number of flashes. For example it might be "flash, flash, flash" (pause) "flash, flash, flash"

Then look in the instruction book and see what "three flashes" means.

If you have lost the instruction book, see if you can download it online.

The flashing signals are very widely use on appliances that self-diagnose.
