Cream Rug Grubbyness Solutions Sought!

I have a big big cream longish haired rug. A much loved member of the family.

Yesterday I decided to swizzle it round to spread the wear and the spot that had been between the coffee table and the sofa is now on full view in the middle of the room.

There is a big grubby patch of grub. I din't think it is anything specific just Grubbyness where DH sits.

Has anyone any wisdom on how to freshen this area up and make it look less grubby?

I would start off by giving it a rub with a cloth dipped in mild detergent and well rung out. Maybe try that on an inconspicuous area and if it doesn't seem to hurt then try it on the offending area. And then get your filthy animal of a husband to wear those fetching blue shoe covers they make you wear at the swimming pool.

I like the blue shoe solution best!
