I'm buying an antique bed which is upholstered in velvet material. I'm slightly shuddering at the velvet upholstery (it hasn't been recently upholstered) in that I don't know how clean it is I have germ ishoos . I'd like to give it a quick clean just to freshen it up when it arrives but I'm not sure how to do so without ruining the velvet. Would diluted washing up liquid and a cloth do the trick? Maybe a specialist upholstery cleaner or would that not be suitable for velvet? Any ideas? i don't want to lose the softness of the material by the wrong cleaning product!
