Any thoughts on how to stop the smell? I put it in the machine for 30 mins on a cold wash with a bit of powder (the label said that was okay to do).

The label came off in the wash and the rug now stinks. It's the skin that actually smells I think, rather than the fur. It's only a small rug and was in pfb's room so wasn't super grubby or stinky before.

I have tried to spray some Fabreeze on the skin, it still stinks though :(

Is it completely dry?

CheshireDing · 20/02/2013 13:44

No I don't think the skin is, although it was out in the sun yesterday and had been hung over the bannister since yesterday Hmm

Still feels a bit dampish though.

remember that basically it is a piece of dead animal, so it will naturally decay and rot.

It is essential to dry it very fast after washing to prevent the rot starting. Putting it out on the washing line on a windy day will dry it fastest. Yo9u will probably have to wash it again, perhaps with a tiny bit of milton.

Before the label came off it definitely said I can't put it in the dryer.

I will check it today and maybe wash it again then on a windy day, thank you :)

I wash mine every week in a normal cold wash with normal amount of detergent then tumble dry at normal heat. It's about 6 years old and still looks new to me.

CheshireDing · 21/02/2013 14:23

Does it smell Stupid?

It still stinks so it's taking it's chances in the dryer then.

Smells like clean to me! I think it's preferable for them to be dried quickly.

StupidFlanders · 22/02/2013 06:44

Oh and I use normal detergent- I assumed noone followed care label advice!

Fairylea · 22/02/2013 06:51

It will smell until it's dried. We dry ds' rug on a hot radiator. Don't tumble it as it will felt and completely ruin!
