Does anyone separate socks and jeans from your normal load of washing?

New washing machines seem to pile my clothes more than the older models. I heard separating things like socks and jeans and of course towels can help reduce this? Does anyone know if this works?

socks, yes, if they're wool mix so need a cool gentle wash (no sweaty feet here). Cotton ones no.

jeans are rather rough with zips and can wear softer things.

towels, if you have a good load, benefit from a hot cotton wash, especially if white, which also helps desludge the washer.

I don't really have enough jeans for a separate wash so will they be ok in with the normal stuff?

I wash jeans with other dark items e.g. jumpers, towels, dh's gym kit, my gym stuff and use powder for colours. Black socks go in the wash with them too.

p.s. i turn everything inside out to keep zips/buttons out of that way

What about underwear, can i stick this in with everything else?[smile

tied up in a sack pillowcase

I put it in with other things as long as it is the same colour e.g. white bras/pants go in a white wash and black stuff goes in a dark wash. Lighter coloured stuff goes in a mixed colours wash

p.s. I have one of those mesh bags to put bras in to stop the hooks catching on the rubber seal (I sometimes remember to use it!)

I do jeans separately due to turning an entire load of washing grey/green with a pair of black jeans.

Several pairs of blue jeans don't really make up a full load but I do a a quick 30 minuter so don't feel too bad about it.

I sometimes wash jeans separately if I have enough, but always turn them inside out. I don't tumble-dry jeans though.
