Has my washing machine died?

My washing machine has gone funny! It seems to be trying to escape it's space when on spin cycle, it makes a god-awful noise, it leaks small amounts of blackened water, and it has been leaving black marks on clothes coming out od the machine. Is it terminal? Can anything be done? Or do i have to face up to it and get a new one? it's about 7 years old, a Beko, it was a cheap and cheerful one at the time, but it has done the business!

Have you checked the drum hasn't dropped and the belt is on correctly? Those are always the first 2 things I check and its generally the problem. The water leaking could be that the filter needs cleaning.

It sounds like the bearings have gone. They hold the drum in place and the very loud knocking you can hear when the machine spins is the drum banging about. The black marks are leaked oil - also a symptom.

Bearings are replaceable on some machines, but unfortunately not on others.

I'd say 7 years use out of a cheap machine is pretty good going.

Just try two things before you give up, check it's not knocked itself out of balance if it has adjustable feet and also, run it once empty on spin.

Yep bearings have gone. New machine needed!

the black marks will spoil nice white things, so stop washing them until you have your new machine.

sausagesandwich34 · 17/02/2013 23:41

please check your filter before you decide all is lost

PigletJohn · 18/02/2013 00:49

it's not the filter

noisy, wobbly spin and black particles is the drum bearings.

sorry.

Thank you for all your help. Husband had checked filter and belt. Funnily enough, we noticed on a wash last night ( i am still attempting washing, and praying to god of washing machines that it will finish..) it seemed quieter. We do know we need a new one though. Am researching new machines as we speak! x
