Smelly washing machine

MIL is having trouble with her machine smelling. She had done a boil wash with soda crystals but no change. I have tried a search on here & found posts saying use vinegar or bleach. No one mentions how much to use or whether to put it in the drum or drawer. If anyone could give me quantities & what temp to do the wash on that would be great.

May be worth doing soda crystals down the sink or drain that is linked to washer too. As for vinegar, I use white vinegar as a fabric conditioner so put in that section of the drawer. A cap full is enough when your washing but could use a couple to try and clean system if you don't put any clothes in.

has she cleaned out the filter, the drawer and the bit the drawer fits into. Also clean around the rubber seal at the drum as it can get mould in the folds. Does she use powder or liquids? Powders contain bleach and help keep the drum cleaner than liquids.

Mine stinks if I don't leave the door open.

Thanks everyone. I have told her t check filter & clean the drawer. She had switched to liquid from powder a while ago as the washing machine man said powder was the worst thing to use in a machine.

I am in Australia so I can't help her. I think she is too scared to take out the drawer. I've asked her is she sure it's the machine as she said she can smell something when she walks into the kitchen. I said to check for spilt milk under the fridge or any food fallen behind the cooker.

I'll tell her to put vinegar on the fabric softener drawer & see if that helps.
