Leather furniture owners.......do you 'feed' your leather?

If so, what with and how often?

A fabulous mumsnetter told me how to clean sofas with Dove soap, 2 buckets of warm water, bar of Dove, wipe on with wet soapy cloth wipe off with wet cloth then I buff dry when all done, Dove has moisturiser in it and smells yummy and lifts any grubby marks off it's fab

:( I had a feeling it was gonna involve WORK!

Luckily I own 2 dark brown sofas, so no marks to be seen, yay!

But wondered whether it was required upkeep.

Just use baby wipes ....works a treat

You can buy feed wipes to be used every 6 months - work like baby wipes but impregnated with different stuff.

Have bought leather furniture from dfs and they sell the feed stuff. Works out roughly £6 a go.

I use baby oill on mine and buff up after.

People feed their leather? In this house, we have a hierarchy or feeding and it goes, children, adults, animals. Our furniture doesn't feature anywhere.

We sit on our sofa, fart on it, sleep on it. Never do we feed it.

its will crack eventually hdee it needs oils like your own skin does,

it will shorten the life of your sofa if you don't.

As mrsbucket says, the leather will eventually crack if its not nourished.

I didn't feed my old leather sofa and it's cracking at the back now

Although the DFS leather wipes work out £6 for each 6 months application they only sell them in a pack of 4 (2 years worth)!

Baby wipes here as well. They've even managed to get dried on fromage frais out of the seams.

I use baby wipes too i get ones with baby lotion in them from the pound shop.

Yeah, but I guess baby wipes just cleans and not feeds........

Our sofa dines out on biscuit crumbs, chocolate,peanuts, popcorn etc. on a regular basis!

My mum was told to use WD40 on her leather sofa.
She'd rented out her flat & the sofa had been left in direct sunlight & neglected so she had nothing to lose.
The WD40 worked a treat - just be sure to work it in well

I have a spray I squirt on now and again and wipe over. I think it has lanolin in. I have a tiny hole and was tempted to try lansinoh to stop it getting any worse...

Baby wipes will dry the leather out eventually. I use Astonish leather cleaner and it's amazing. We have an old second hand leather settee in our kitchen and parts of the seats were really dry and looked knackered, but after using the Astonish they came up beautifully. You just massage it in with rubber-gloved hands, then leave it for a while and then give it a rub with a cloth to remove any excess (so not too much like hard work!)
