Caterpillars in my rice?!

Any guesses what they might be and where from? Twice I have found holes nibbled in rice bags, I assumed it was something trying to get in but now wondering if they were in there already.. 2 cm long, white with brown head. Looks like I need to give the cupboard a good clean out but also wondering whether they might have come from the shop?

you sure they are caterpillars and not maggots?

Are they weevils ? Check your flour as they often appear in there.

I've seen bags of rice in the shop with maggots in them. I now look very closely when buying it. Not sure how helpful that is, sorry.

I'm afraid it sounds like Indian mealmoth larvae - if you get those they are really difficult to get rid off - it took us ages. You need to put all dry goods into tubs/jars, or you'll never get rid of them :(

Everything in airtight jars. Throw out the rice. Bleach the cupboard

Hoover the inside of the cupboards as well. Kill every moth that appears before they have a chance to lay eggs. It takes ages to get rid of them.

Agree. Food moths are difficult to get rid of.

We discovered them in our kitchen last Spring.

We threw all affected foods out and more. Hoovered and cleaned all the kitchen cupboards. Put all new packets of cereals and flours, etc into sealed containers. Used every commercial product to man to halt the larva cycle. Killed every live moth that we saw and despite this we were still getting them late autumn last year.

I'm sure we haven't seen the back of them.

Took me months to get rid of weevils. Our neighbours (in a flat) buy the big bags of rice. Our kitchens back on to each other. Start the deep clean!
Vacuum & clean with bleach, spray something for crawling bugs before putting anything back. Bin everything & empty vacuum outside

Btw sealed Kilner jars. I freeze new bags of flour etc & buy frozen rice now.
