(With many thanks again to Jdub for title inspiration!!)

OK, because we are all so good at chatting housework, we need a second January thread ... .

... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of Wine along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

Carry on everybody!

**

Baby-step no. 24 for Thurs 24th Jan is here add swish and swipe to your morning routine! A really helpful one!!

Tomorrow, are continuing in Zone 4 the boudoir here

Try and declutter for 15 mins in the current zone per day.

If your Zone 4 is already decluttered, you can progress to detailed cleaning

Tomorrow's mission is here quickly clearing the stuff on your bedside tables before it becomes a full-blown hotspot. (Apparently this is fun, not a chore Confused)

Thursday is errand day

The habit for January is still shining your sink!

And if I've missed anything or you want a quick reference to tomorrow's tasks, have a look at tomorrow's flight plan which should update daily.

Hope newcomers getting along ok - don't hesitate to ask if not! BB in the morning!

Good luck and hope you feel better tomo SC

I was thinking i could make a list for tomo, but everytime i do that things never go to plan so I think that i am going to start with a simple list and then add stuff to it in a manner fitting however much coffee i have drunk. Can't do errands as the town i need to use is cut off by ice and snow. They will wait.

To do:
ds to school
laundry
ds and homework
something fun with ds
early night.

speaking of early nights, i am again going to try for an early night, just hoping i don't wake up at midnight unable to go back to sleep for most the night again. So annoying when that happens.

New list strategy sounds good/pragmatic/do-able btw.

Evening all.

Big hugs to you Engels

Glad you are feeling better Sc and that ds finger wasn't broken Bitchy

Just wanted to report briefly that I completed my to do list Grin and I am now feeling very smug as it is the first time in over a week that my house has looked reasonably tidy!

Im off to relax now as dh is having an early night so I don't have to watch his rubbish on tv.

Good night ladies and big wing flaps to all.

Evening all,
Am feeling v humbled by everyone's ta da lists in spite RL issues.
In honour of Anti Procrastination Day
at work I have: tackled a mountain of filing and de-cluttered loads - hurrah!
at home I have: drawn up a list of jobs I've been avoiding for weeks (booking appointments, writing various business letters etc)
I have started working my way through the list. Grin
FInally the sink is shining.....(that's the only bit of housework I've done!)
Off to bed now whilst it's still a decent hour.

Evening all,

Glad to hear that DS's finger is not broken Bitchy and that you are feeling better SC.

Sorry to hear about your building woes Shifty.

SC - My DS is having difficulty getting off to sleep too at the moment, he says he never gets to sleep till 10.30 (which is not true) but I think it is often 9 or later. We are trying to pull back bedtime a bit earlier and we always go upstairs an hour or so before bed to read, chat, sort out clothes, generally wind down, but he and DD love to play together and they often get very involved in a game or something which does nothing to calm them ready for bed.

Well, I didn't do much Flying today (Mondays and Fridays are my main Flying days), but did manage to fit in

Help at school
Admin stuff at home
Paid work
OU work
Lunch
Swimming
Coffee with friends - essential!
Meeting at school - very useful
Dinner and make packed lunches
2 loads of washing done, dried and put away
Take DD to Brownies - to find it was cancelled due to more snow falling, but it was quite nice out walking together as the snow fell.

Night all.

Evening all,

Just a quick one from me as am v tired (again...!).

None-fying things done today:

CV updated and sent off
Met friend for lunch in town
Eyebrows threaded while there...

Done (from my to-do list)
Dressed to shoes
tidy up breakfast
shine sink
fold and put children's washing away (not mine though...)

So - list nearly achieved, but it was very unambitious.

Extras
Bled radiators (house still f-ing freezing)
Went through pictures with DH and chose which rooms to put most of them in (moved in 18 months ago but still no pics up)
Lots of washing up/dishwasher and wiping and drying of kitchen surfaces (including actually drying up washing up, putting away and polishing draining area - never happened before)
Collected DC2 from nursery at 3.00 and then DC1 from playdate later

Whoknows and SC - gah... so sleep issues don't go away when they are 9!? Actually, I remember having problems myself too. Good luck and hope DCs get more sleep tonight.

Well done Mercury! And Crikey.

Shifty - I can see how enthusiasm could wane... Sounds like you are in the middle of serious work! It'll be worth it in the end (I'd have thought!).

Got to go to a Job-finding seminar thing tomorrow so there won't be much flying.

Night night all.

On a complete side note fancy giving a bit advice here?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/01/2013 23:11

Beginner - we've never really had sleep issues with DS so hopefully this is just a phase, it isn't causing any problems other than grumpiness in the mornings. Fussy eating on the other hand.....

Report
BitchyDragons · 23/01/2013 23:17

I think the sleep issues thing is a bit dependant. i know i am a worrier and an analyser and had to have effectively rewound the day in my head and worked my way through everything that had happened as part of my winding down process. I have always found to very difficult to settle. ds has a sleep disorder. i pretend to know nothing about normal children when it comes to sleeping.

Don't really know what the consensus is on the hair Bitchy but I'd be wary of trashing the condition of it.

Hair - hmmm - I think it looks v cool and stylish non-teenagers can definitely pull it off. I don't think I could though - am totally uncool...Smile

Beds
Windows
Dd to school
Laundry on

beginner I use a notebook and make all sorts of lists. I like the feeling of satisfaction I get when I tick something off. I did stick lists up on the fridge of my morning/tea time routines, but after doing them for about three months, it has become automatic now. I also have a calender in the kitchen with important stuff on. I bought a page a day diary but seem to have got into the habit of using my notebook instead.
