What make was/is your washing machine and how long before it needed replacing?

NEFF, integrated - 10 years (drum stopped working today, hopefully can fix)

Zanussi jet 1200 washer/ dryer. Had it around 8-9 years & been fixed once.

Family of 5 & use it every day to wash but only tumble towels, duvets in winter.

Have been married 31 years and only owned 2 washing machines, neither of which have broken down (yet).
First one was a Zanussi - had it for 23 years, then moved house to one where there was already a washing machine fitted - a Bosch and have been using it for 9 years without any problems.

I do 3 - 4 washes a week.

Hotpoint washer dryer. About six years. Given to DP by some people he was moving, they were going to a newbuild with fully fitted everything and just asked his firm to dispose of the white goods in any way they saw fit. Those were the days before the recession!

It's getting very ropey now, the control knob is bonkers and you have to turn it to each new stage manually three times during each wash.

Sorry used most days.

Miele - had current one 3.5 years, no repairs (touches wood....)
Miele - in previous house, now rented to a tenant, had it in there 8 years no repairs (touches even more wood....)
Miele - DMum bought when I was in 6th form, I am now 33 so that's about 15/16 years, no repairs (you'd better touch some wood now too, DMum....)

My DMum is 73 and has only had 3 washing machines her entire adult life - an ancient twin tub that was second hand when she was first married, then a Hotpoint top loader that she had for the best part of 30 years, then the Miele that she's got now.

Zanussi - still going strong (touch wood) 22 years later. Only need an engineer once and that was when it hadn't been used for over 6 months.

Hotpoint that used to be my mums, 18 years.
Current Bosch Exxcel is 9 years old and now does about 10 washes a week (3 kids, cloth nappies, wet beds, sports kit etc. Was 3 a week pre-kids!). It had a minor repair once when a hose got a leak.

AEG about 5 years old - doing my kitchen soon and could do with an integrated machine but not prepared to give up my wonderful washing machine.
Previously had a Bosch - great, left behind on moving.
AEG washer dryer - hated the dryer part, left behind on moving.
Philips top loader - fab but had to leave it behind when we moved.

Bosch, 10 years. Ave 3 loads a day (baby & 3yo, reflux, wet beds, rolling in muddy puddles a la Peppa Pig...).

Previously a Hotpoint. Total shite, 3 years (inc 3 repairs under warranty and 2 out - realised it was going to be cheaper to buy new).

wow, there are some washing machines that have been going for an impressively long time. And it would appear that there isn't necessarily one brand that stands out.

I really hope mine can get fixed.

My dads bosch is 12 years old (at least) and still fine and never needed any more than a new seal.

The John lewis machine from my old house is now 7 years old and still fine (now at my aunts / uncles)

The John lewis machine in my current house is 18m old and touch wood also still fine. gets a lot of use in this house, and will be used even more in a few months when i have 2 in cloth nappies!

I've been through SO many washing machines over the years, partly due I think to living in an extremely hard water area. I've tried Hotpoint, Hoover, Bosch and John Lewis. My JL was 3 years old when I sold it with my house when I moved. I now have a cheap as chips Whirlpool which has been fine for 4 years - am now in a soft water area. Also it's just me and DP now so not as much washing (plus DD TWICE managed to bust a machine by putting a bra in to wash not in a net bag - the wire worked it's way out and jammed the drum. Now she has her own washing machine she makes sure she puts her bras in a smalls bag!!)

Managed to get washing machine fixed today, what a relief. Washing mountain piling up and fixing so much cheaper than replacing.

Fwiw, my Bosch has been going strong for 14 years. Needed new brushes last year but engineer said it otherwise looked in good shape.

We had a cheap Candy machine that lasted 14 years and only gave up the ghost 3 years ago. We currently have a Bosch Exxcel, which is going fine so far.

zanussi washer/ dryer still washes dryer died after 5 years.

Meile - 12 years old and still going strong. Glad you got it fixed :)

Miele Miele Miele

No brainer if you can afford- you don't need the models with 100 programs.
J Lewis told us we would get 20 years out of it though the "official" guarantee is 10 years.

Before this we had an ancient Zanussi which was made before they were taken over by Electrolux and it lasted 19 years.

Awaiting diagnosis but think my Bosch has just died, only 5 yrs old...

Do not get a Beko. Lasted just more than a year before the concrete blocks at the bottom completely fell off (bolt clean shorn off so could not be fixed). Warranty just over, crap customer service. I will NEVER buy another Beko appliance, fridge freezer also broke after 2 years.

Now have a hot point which was not expensive but is great. 2 years service and counting. Hot point fridge freezer only a few months old but have been impressed so far (well, it keeps things cool or frozen, as required!).

Miele here too. Came with a ten year guarantee (it was a special promotion).

Prior to that, a couple of other brands that lasted about 18 months each before something broke. Now I will only have Miele.
