What's on your spare bed?

Assuming it's not a mountain of junk or other things to be sorted...

What do you put on your spare bed? Do you leave it fully made up? Just with a bedspread?

Tell me and inspire me please. :o

Mine is always fully made up - mainly because DH and I are really bad at sharing a bed (even though we have a lovely 6 foot bed!!) so most nights one of us will de-camp to the spare room - or preferably start off there in the first place. I actually dread inviting people to stay because I know it will affect our sleep - have been known to sleep on the sofa when we have people staying !

I am seriously in awe of couples who can happily share a bed, we have been married nearly 25 years and I can barely count the good nights' sleep we have had Grin. cross because his latest business trip was cancelled due to snow

ARightOldPickle · 19/01/2013 11:21

Mine are used quite a lot with DDs coming and going (2 of them live away and come back for weekends regularly)
I strip and air them after they've gone and have large throw/bedspread things that I cover the duvet and pillows with, they look nice and keep the dust off.

And then I cover it up with piles of clean washing that need sortingGrin

wewereherefirst · 19/01/2013 11:23

Mine is made up as I hate an unmade bed and the spare bed is in DS2's room so it gets used when he has a really bad night.

K2ZJH · 19/01/2013 11:31

mine atm is being used by my nan and grandad. they stay for 7 weeks at the start of the year due to the caravan site they live on closing.

but usually it is stripped and blankets etc put in vaccum bags then put in the bed drawers I then use that room for my airers abd ironing

ChippingInNeedsSleepAndCoffee · 19/01/2013 11:35

It's made up with lovely white linen - all ready to be slept in :)

However, it's been made up for a few weeks now, so if I knew someone was coming to stay I'd strip it and make it up with fresh linen. But it woud be fine if someone just turned up needing a bed.

Sparklingbrook · 19/01/2013 11:37

Envy at spare beds.

Fantasy spare bed would have cream or white high thread count Egyptian cotton bed linen.

OrangeLily · 19/01/2013 12:01

Ours is made up and is comfy comfy. But it doesn't get dusty because we have people staying regularly.

Had a set of parents stay last Friday and have 2 sets of cousins + partners staying tonight so one set is on an air bed but even that's a pretty comfy one too!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 19/01/2013 12:34

The ironing pile usually.

But fully made up.

fussychica · 19/01/2013 14:22

It's got DS on/in it at the mo - back to Uni Monday then it will be spare againSad. It's always made up as recently I have been sleeping badly and waking DH so I sometimes sleep in there so he can get a good nights sleep. I actually like sleeping on my own sometimes but DH gets offended if I say soGrin

noisytoys · 20/01/2013 09:37

Envy at spare beds too. My imaginary one would be like a show bed next to the imaginary spare wardrobe, dresser and mirror. Like a spare hotel room Grin

notMarlene · 20/01/2013 09:43

Always: cheap plain white linen
Often: a basket of folded laundry waiting to be put away and / or sleeping cats
Regularly: DP

We live quite a way away from most of our friends and my family live in the UK (we don't) and DP snores like a walrus when he's stresses, so we've put the DC in together to free up the box box room as a 'spare' room...

zlist · 20/01/2013 09:44

Spare king in spare bedroom - nothing, already made up (I often sleep in there due to DH snoring and taking over the entire bed though).

Spare single (2x stakka bed) in my study - 4 rolls wallpaper, pair of jeans, pile of marking waiting to be done. I plan to get rid of this bed when I re-do this room. Massive waste of space really for how often anyone sleeps in it.

HokeyCokeyPigInAPokey · 20/01/2013 09:49

Mine is always made up too, currently has some bags of clothes to ebay on though.

Sparklingbrook · 20/01/2013 09:50

YY noisy exactly. With an en suite with little bottles and fluffy white towels.

ThreeBeeOneGee · 20/01/2013 09:50

No spare beds or spare rooms here, but if I did have one, I would probably have a sofa bed so the room could be used for something else when people weren't staying. It would bother me to have a whole room that wasn't used every day. Then I guess I'd have a wooden chest or something in that room with clean spare bedding in it, ready to be used. But the wooden chest would also have to double up as a bench. Grin

ComradeJing · 21/01/2013 02:18

Thanks everyone.

Right now our spare room is a bit of a staging area as we're still un cluttering from our big rented house overseas to our wee bought house.

When the room is finally clear though I wasn't sure what was best - leaving the bed made or not. Seems like leaving it made is the general vote!

ThreeBeeOneGee - that's what we did in our study. We have a sofa bed in there and it works really well.

Made up, OH likes it looking nice. This means we have a twee, IMO, bed spread with matching pillow cases. Also the teddy bears I've banished from our bed. Step son's bed is also left made up with even worse matching bedding.

DewDr0p · 21/01/2013 10:01

Always made up. Dh sleeps in there sometimes.

Amazingly clutter free (unlike the rest of the house Grin )

We have a bed rather than a sofa bed because (a) it's our old bed, really wanted a kingsize when we moved here and didn't want to throw the bed away and (b) most sofa beds aren't all that comfy (or weren't when we furnished that room). We have visitors often enough that it doesn't feel like a wasted space.

Wildwaterfalls · 21/01/2013 10:08

Yes ours is made too, with pretty colour- coordinated cushions. I like to look at it - a bit sad I know but such a nice change from our bedroom, which looks like a bomb has gone off in it

Purplemonster · 21/01/2013 12:23

Mostly covered in cats, cat baskets, cat toys and usually a heap of OHs assorted clothes (grrr) it is made up but on the odd occasion we have guests I have to change the bedding and de clutter a bit first.
