Where do you buy your high thread count bedlinen?

DH has just given me the go-ahead to buy really good-quality bedlinen (as opposed to the rubbish bed-in-a-bag stuff we've been making do with). I've never had good bedlinen and I'm rather ridiculously excited.

I'm going for Egyptian cotton, and I know that the higher the thread count, the better the quality. I have a couple of questions though:

I'd rather buy a couple of sets than have to "wash-and-wear", so have to balance the thread count with the cost! What is a really good thread count that won't break the bank?

Can it all be tumble-dried?

Does the thread count affect the amount of creasing in the wash i.e. how much ironing does it need? I don't actually own an iron, just a handheld steamer, so the creasing will actually make a difference to my choice.

TIA!

Got some 500tc linen in House of Fraser sale recently 70% off, could never have afforded it otherwise. Very happy so far as old cotton sheets were very bobbly and was embarrassed to make up guest bed with them.

I bought mine off achica. Lovely and crisp and white!
