Cleaning a microwave

I've just bought a second-hand microwave and scrubbed it as best I can - but it still smells of someone else's curry Hmm - any tips for cleaning and freshening it?

Half-fill a mug with water, add a slice of lemon and put it in the microwave for five minutes or so (so it is really boiling and the microwave is all steamy). Then wipe down again.

Bowl of water with a squirt of w-up liquid and some lemon slices. Microwave on full power so that it gets all steamy inside. Should then loosen some of the ingrained fat/dirt and you can clean it more effectively

Oh, thank you - off to buy a lemon now!

get a large bowl (microwave safe) put lemon juice in it about a whole lemon and a large mug of water. place in microwave and put on for about a min or longer depending on how strong the smell is

but be careful it doesnt all evaperate.

it can be quite difficult to clean the "ceiling" of the oven (ours has a grill element)

I found it all much easier when I laid it on its back, and used a green scouring pad.

Don't have the electronic parts or fan at the bottom, so water can't run in there.

Slice of lemon in a bowl of water, on for 1-1.5 mins, then (crucially) let the water stand for about 10-15 mins. The water should then have condensed and made the inside of the microwave wet. This'll make it nice and easy to wipe over with a dishcloth, including any grill element. You might also find strong-smelling herbs, such as rosemary or bay leaves, useful in the water to combat the smell.
