Cleaning fabric vertical blinds

I've just had a close-up look at our vertical blinds and they are disgustingly filthy - mainly thanks to the cats brushing in-between them.
I am thinking about putting some warm soapy water in the bath and swirling them about and hoping for the best... DH thinks this will ruin them. Any MN tips?

That's definitely the best way to clean the louvres. Hang them back on the rail to dry when you've washed them and your blinds should be as good as new.
