Unwashable Oxide Jacket needs a wash...Risk washing machine?

I have this great jacket. It's that waxy cotton type and is perfect for wet days but it's beginning to pong after two years
Do I risk the washing machine on a light wash?

Says I can't wash it. I can't even dry clean it ffs!

How much damage will I do?

You are just meant to sponge them.

What does it smell of? Dogs? Horses?

They're not expected to be clean.

Can't you just air it outside? That is what I do with ds's wax jacket so it doesn't continually pong of horses.

Don't put it in the washing machine:

A. Unfortunately there is nothing that can be done as the washing process strips all the wax finish from the cotton fabric. Any re-application of the wax coating will be totally absorbed by the cotton fabric and will soil the inner lining which, in turn, will soil any clothing worn underneath.

No it just smells damp. I don't have dogs or horses. I wear it in the rain a lot.

A good airing outside on a day like today when there is a good breeze should do the trick although it might take a couple of days. Sometimes ds's jacket really stinks but the smell always goes after it has had a good airing. I'd rather he wore something else I could wash but the jacket is part of his horse rangers uniform.
