How to clean mattress?

This is a bit embarrassing...

We have a posh new mattress. It cost a fortune, and has springs and memory foam...it's perfect for my back. It's only a few months old.

But, my kidneys have been playing up recently, and last night bled randomly quite badly. I didn't notice...I took the sheet off to wash it this morning but it's gone through onto the mattress. I've tried to hide it from OH but it's quite obvious, big patches of blood.

I'm mortified. And feeling very embarrassed and ill. Is there any way I can get it out? I can't really do strenous scrubbing today (kidneys are agony) but I feel terrible knowing it is dirty upstairs...

Many thanks for any advice :)

You can get someone round to steam clean your mattress, just look in the phone book, they're usually with carpet cleaners. I'd spray with disinfectant and put a towel over it until they can get there.

More to the point though, shouldn't you be in A+E getting your kidneys checked out? Bleeding kidneys aren't usually a good thing, surely!

I don't think A&E want me cluttering up beds...they do know that they bleed, it's just random, and nothing is being done about it yet. Antibiotics don't help at all.

I shall have a look at steam cleaners, thank you.
