Un-fairy lights

So the fairy lights stopped working and I replaced the fuse bulb (the bulb closest to the bulb, with the white tip). I don't have the box for the lights so wasn't sure of the wattage but the bloke in Robert Dyas said that it didn't matter if it was the fuse bulb.

Anyway, replaced the fuse bulb yesterday, the lights worked, did a little celebration dance. But plugged the lights in this morning, they lit up for a second and then kaput.

Is there anything else I should try or should I just admit defeat and get some new lights?

the more modern LED lights are incredibly cheap at Wilkinsons or Dyas, and don't seem to go wrong

Round about 25th December they will be trying to clear the shelves at a pound a box.

I normally go to Argos for stuff like that but will try Dyas as there is one near me.
