Do I risk machine washing these curtains?

They are 100% silk outers and 100% cotton linings made by Next but the cat has pissed on them so I can either rinse them, like I did last time or try washing them.

I know some companies put dry clean only on things just to avoid actually testing them for suitable washing instructions so I'm wondering if I should risk them in a machine.

When I rinsed them last time they had a horrible musty smell to them when the water hit them so I dont think they are too clean anyway.

They are not my curtains, they belong to the landlord. My curtains are machine washable for this reason.

was going to say risk it but if they're not yours then I wouldn't unless your landlord agrees
would a dryclean even get rid of cat pee?

Fluffycloudland77 · 17/12/2012 08:18

I dont know, it's a pretty pervasive smell. They are so cheap and nasty looking too it's a shame to spend the money on them.

Stupid curtain pole is too thin and poorly put up to hold our nice machine washable ones.

Handwash in the bath?

ggirl · 17/12/2012 08:27

well if they look cheap could you replace them?
risk washing in machine then if they're ruined replace

i've washed dryclean only curtains in machine, cold handwash cycle and they were fine..they weren't silk though

Handwash?

They are from next, LL used to live here so would notice if I changed them. Whole house is a shrine to Next.

I'm going to have to hand wash them arent I Sad

I machine washed silk/satin curtains from Next on a 30degrees delicates cycle. They survived the wash and didn't shrink, but they didn't wash amazingly well. I suspect you will need to wash at 40 to get rid of the cat urine smell.
