Bit of a random question but I have coins I need cleaning.

Both silver and copper.

Got no coke in.

I used to use Silvo and Brasso, they're still available.

Baby wipes are good on silver jewellry I've found - would they work?

InNeedOfBrandyButter · 14/12/2012 17:35

I was going to say coke!

Toothpaste should work.

BertieBotts · 14/12/2012 17:39

Do you have anything else acidic like orange juice or vinegar? Could try that instead of coke, don't know if it would work. Leave them in it overnight and rinse in the morning.

I think many years ago my brother collected coins and cleaned them with Cif!

PigletJohn · 14/12/2012 17:42

collectors coins, or ones of no value that you want to be shiny for the pudding or something?

borisjohnsonshair · 14/12/2012 17:44

Soak them overnight in vinegar then give them a polish with brasso in the morning.

I'm doing a treasure chest for my friends little girl for Christmas.

Got some old 10p, 5p, shillings and pennies like that.

So no value, but I want them shiny.

Put coins in a non metal dish with vinegar overnight & then rinse. If still needing an extra polish scrub with vinegar on a old toothbrush.

the old Duraglit wadding used by generations of soldiers to polish their brass buttons, is now branded as Brasso.

It is sold in a small tin with a pull off lid and is a roll of cotten impregnated damply with a polish.

It will bring up copper coins bright as gold.

You polish it off with a cotton rag. Wear gloves or your fingers will be stained by the tarnish that comes off. You will probably never have seen anything shine so bright. Even metal polish on a toothbrush will not be so bright.

Clean with brown sauce.
