Renting a rug doctor carpet cleaner?

Have any of you used one and did it get the carpets clean, can it do stairs?

If you've used something better, I'd love to know.

Moving out, house needs to be done, thinking of doing it myself

I used one and it worked a treat. There's a thingy that you can do the stairs with. I had to change the water more than I thought but it was no big deal. The water was FILTHY!

Make sure that you overlap each sweep otherwise you get a 'line' of not quite clean carpet.

We rented one last year and gave the carpets a clean. This year we got a local guy in with a beast of a machine and the carpets came up far far better. And drier. With rug doctor the carpets are damp for a long time. This professional jobby the carpets were dampish but dry the next day!

It worked out about the same price as the hiring of the rug doctor, the buying of the product you need and my time at minimum wage!

I'd never do it myself again!!
