help with my washing machine?

damn thing keeps gettting water in the drum,sometimes it happens so that when i take a load out its dripping,most of the time i use it.turn it off and next day about 3 mugs worth of water in it
at this time of year i cant afford
call out from repair man especially if hes going to look at me as a simpering female who couldve fixed problem myself!
at the moment im just spin/drain buttoning it.please someone tell me its not serious and this isnt gong to cause it to pack up

have you tried cleaning out the filter as something may be blocking it? My filter is behind a removable kickplate at the bottom of the machine and then I have to remove a screw from the the cover of the filter and unscrew the cover. Have something handy to collect or mop up the water that will come out.

yes, try the pump filter because that's easy and should be done anyway. The loose change you collect can go towards your repair fund

however
if the amount of water increaes with time after a wash (turn the empty drm with your hand to see if it splashes, (1) just after a wash (2) the next day, then it will be the electric water inlet valve. That needs a repair. A new valve is about £30 to buy and needs some competence to fit. By chance mine needs changing and I have bought the new valve but not got round to fitting it yet.

until then, turn off the service valve which is probably under your sink, where the flexible plastic hose from the machine connects to the copper water pipe. Turn it back on before you want to wash again, then off afterwards. Some machines have a separate hose for hot and for cold water, in which case turn off the valves one at a time and do the test, it may be that you only need to turn one of them off.

The valve might be a quarter-turn lever one, or one with a knob that you screw down like a radiator valve. Incidentally if you ever need to buy a valve, get a Pegler. It will cost a pound more but last much longer and not leak like the cheap ones.

If you do nothing, then after a period the drum will fill up with water and leak over the floor. Shutting the door will delay this.

I would also turn off the water taps by the washing machine in and outlet, and unscrew the outlet hose - just to check that there is nothing stopping all the water draining out of the machine at the end of a wash. (I once found a penny at the end of mine)

Good idea, check the filter, IF your machine has one you can get to. This happened to me and my machine's filter is behind the screwed in metal plate at the back of the machine. I got the fixer to come and fix it for me and it cost £15.
