Odd minty smell on wet washing

I did a nappy wash last night and didn't get chance to hang it out so it's still wet 24 hours later. The muslins I use as nappies and the flannel wet wipes smell really odd - a kind of minty type smell, not entirely pleasant.

I've had this before on food bibs which are plastic backed and fleece-fronted - they got black mould type spots on them eventually.

Any idea what it could be and how to deal with it?

I do a reasonably regular maintenance wash, the machine is in good condition. I normally use soapnuts, though this latest wash was done with bio coloured washing powder and soda crystals.

Thanks; washed on 90 and they smell much better. :)

The colour washing powder doesn't contain bleach so it's not great for things which might have bacteria present.

I agree leaving it sitting in the machine is probably the culprit, or washing below 60 - I always try to do my towels/cloths on 60 or higher. :)

As an aside if you know you aren't going to have chance to take the washing out, my washing machine advises me this is what the "rinse hold" button is for - it holds the cycle just before the final rinse, so when you have some free time you just press the rinse hold button again and it will rinse and spin it in around 15 minutes ready for you to hang out :)

It was actually in a basket rather than the machine. Confused

That's useful about the rinse hold.

I feel a bit Confused and Hmm about washing instructions eg our bibs say to wash at 40 and not use bleach. Lots of nappies recommend 40 washes without bleach. I'll try to do more at 60 I think.
