Am I being a mop-pet?

Am I being a bit thick here? I've just bought a new vileda mop (one of these and I cannot for the life of me (or DH) work out how to get the blasted mop head off? My old vileda mop had a red button at the bottom that just released it.

How am I being so dim? Please help.....

Me too! Have no idea - was also feeling slightly foolish about it ! Please let me know if you find out.

Biscuitsandtinsel · 10/12/2012 22:31

I have emailed vileda with a plea for help!

Vileda emailed me this:

In reply to your email, the connection on the Supermocio has now changed, it is now a push on pull off connection, to remove the head you just pull it, not twist or turn, just pull, however this can be quite stiff and need a little strength behind it. Then to replace the refill you just push it on until it clicks into place.

I'll try it later....

And it did work, but I had to pull really hard. No way I would have pulled it that hard without sort of knowing that I was supposed to be doing it. I would have thought I would break it!

Ooh thanks - will have another go!

jenster1976 · 22/04/2013 11:58

and this is why I love Mumsnet - off to try and yank my mop head off!!

morethanmama · 22/04/2013 12:13

Have had exactly this problem today! Gave up in the end and wandered off to eat a biscuit!

morethanmama · 22/04/2013 12:14

Am also off to yank mop head off!

gremlindolphin · 23/04/2013 11:06

This is why I love Mumsnet too! I was so cross with my new one last week and then my dh figured it out (after much huffing and puffing too!). It is great to know its not just me! xx

I am really annoyed with Vileda they have given no thought to this new design. I am a fit and healthy and could not remove this ridiculous mop head I had to open the garden door, place the mop head under the door and yank it off, with my foot securing the mop!! What drama!! A person less able than me would have great difficulty getting this off. Bring back the old design!!

morethanmama · 29/08/2013 07:43

Me too. It's always a big drama that involves touching the stinking thing.

Homeworkparent · 04/09/2013 13:38

Thanks very much for this information.

I used the suggestions from Vileda via Biscuitsandtinsel via Mumsnet, and managed to remove said head, with difficulty, by standing on it! www.mumsnet.com/member/photo-preview

Bear in mind I am a mere male mortal and don't come close to having the ingenuity & strength of my DW, so this wasn't easy. Smile

ellenmelon283 · 05/10/2013 13:02

oh my goodness thankyou!!!! lol maybe vileda want to update their packaging as when I gave up and brought a new mop entirely I was giving off steam when the instructions showed the old style red button and the new version mop inside!

Ziggyzoom · 07/04/2014 14:45

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to say thank you - I too thought I had lost the plot!

cafecito · 10/04/2014 16:21

ha I just looked this up too ziggy!!

Wandathewindfairy · 28/07/2014 19:09

I also know is old thread but am so glad for it. I thought I was being a mop pet too! Brilliant!

Oliver1974p · 21/10/2014 13:45

Hi,this is my first vileda 1,2,spraymop with traditional shape mop head.Had a quick try at removing mop head but left it as I'll face that later :/ I was wanting to know do all vileda mop heads have the same fitting attatchment to the shaft of the mop as I wanted to order on line and wasn't sure if I was ordering the correct one?

Oliver1974p · 21/10/2014 14:36

Me again. My kitchen floor has anti slip tiles on the floor. These are textured ind feel a bit grainy and rough.Anybody got ant suggestions of how or what to clean it with. When the floor dries it leaves fibres all over floor where tile texture has worn the mop.I then have to Hoover the floor!

blahblahblah72 · 05/01/2015 13:33

Never mind removing the mop head - I have just had a hell of a time trying to connect the mop to the stick before using it. Such a drama, I'm convinced I'll never be able to get it off again!

Wordsaremything · 03/12/2016 09:28

Realise this is ancient thread but I have this very problem, having recently ditched my ancient mop with quick release mechanism.

Is it still a brute force job? Packaging unhelpful.

gxu3 · 29/10/2018 12:10

Totally agree its an impossible design and shows little thought for the user. I would not have bought it if I had known it was so hard to change the thing !

wishywashywoowoo70 · 04/04/2021 17:50

I know this is an old thread but that god for Mumsnet. Been trying to get this bloody mop head off all day
