How to renovate parquet flooring

Hi.
We have got a sort of (cheap) parquet flooring which is sort of greyish and dirty looking and shows up spills and splashes. I would like to clean it, colour it a bit darker and make it look waxed and beautiful.
Has anyone any ideas how to do it/suggestions of products?
Thanks.

I used linseed oil on our parquet when we moved in. big circular movements, with a lintfree cloth. Hard work, a bit smelly (but I quite liked the smell!!) but the floor looks lovely. Did this 6 years ago, and probably need to do it again now.

When you say ot looks lovely ... did it change/deepen the colour at all? My floor is not a rich golden colour; more a parched greyish beige. I have a small bottle of linseed oil - could try a corner.

Ours was like this so we had a specialist company come and restore it for us. Our floor is 110 years old and it now looks absolutely breathtaking. It cost £275. Money well spent - they gently sanded it to remove all the grey and any surface dents, repaired a few loose slabs and then put 3 layers of low shine (as requested by us) varnish. We had the choice of stain and finish, we chose clear and low shine.

It is now easy to keep clean and everyone comments on how lovely it looks Grin

My husband wants to do it himself. Hmm. I would go for your option!

You can hire the machines from HSS Hire I think! Looked like a hassle to me and too much dust! Good luck though! :)

Vix could you pm me the name of the specialist company. The people who were renovating my bathroom offered to re-finish my parquet floors...and they made a hash of it. I need to find an expert to re-do the whole thing. Many thanks!
