Can I machine my much loved jacket on cold?

Or will it shrink?

It's a really old GAP tweed jacket (wool with cotton lining). It's already "neat" (it's ten years old and I'm not getting any thinner), so I don't want it to shrink. It's not machine washable, but it's a bit whiffy under the arms so I'd like to freshen it up. If I put it on a handwash cycle in the machine on cold will it shrink? Do I need to bite the bullet and have it dry cleaned? Could I handwash it in the sink?

What say you?

Will be fine in the machine on cold as a once off.
I've done it loads of times Smile

I would do it on a wool wash rather than just a cold wash as it does less bashing around. and a more gentle spin,

If you love it that much I think you should get it dry cleaned.

I do love it, I really do...........but I hate dry cleaners. Dry cleaning it is going to be safer isn't it?
