sticky bottom on iron

Bought a new iron, two days later it's rucking up the shirts when I iron. There's a black sticky bit on the bottom, cleaning ideas PLEASE? I have a film to watch today, two spare hours and a non functioning iron!!

I used to get the iron nice and hot then scrape it on the side of my ironing board so the sticky stuff came off slattern
Failing that you could try that sticky stuff remover you get from Lakeland?

either that or cold, a little fairy liquid and a nylon scratchy pad (gently).
